On Wednesday we reported that a patch to safeguard against the iPhone SMS vulnerability had not yet been issued. Today we are glad to report that a patch is available. However, iTunes is currently configured to check for operating system updates only on a weekly basis, so we recommend that you manually get the patch.

Here’s what to do:

1. Connect your iPhone to your computer via USB cable
2. Under Devices, select your phone from the list
3. Click on the “Check for Update” button
4. When you see the prompt informing you that 3.0.1 is available, choose “Download and Install”
5. Sync your phone
6. Repeat for another device if necessary

Thankfully, we did not hear of any “Day Zero” attacks, so it seems that this one went by about as smoothly as Y2K — lots of fuss, no muss.
