AT&T RF Remote – Better Late Than Never
If you’re an AT&T U-verse customer, the world of channel changing is about to get a little bit more exciting. Okay, not really. But for fifty dollars, you’ll be able to change the channel without having a line of sight between the remote and the U-verse receiver.
Engadget’s Richard Lawler and Gizmodo’s Jack Loftus covered the Point Anywhere RF Remote Control story yesterday. To sum up the news, AT&T U-verse TV customers can purchase the Anywhere system, plug the dongle (USB RF adapter) into the U-verse receiver, and enjoy controlling the television from anywhere in the house (or at least hide the ugly receiver in a cabinet).
The Anywhere system controls up to four devices: U-verse receiver, television, and two other devices. Users can access a library of 10,000 RF codes or program their own through the learning feature, which provides audio and visual feedback to guide users through the set-up process.
DISH Network customers have had access to RF control like this since at least 2000, when DISH Network’s Model 6000 was honored as e-town.com’s Product of the Year in the Home Theater/Satellite category. DIRECTV customers have had access to RF remotes for several years now as well. We’re sure there are others… please let us know what’s missing from our list.
