Dubai Continues World Domination Plan: Pulse Activates Home Automation

Another day, another iPhone app. Dubai-based Pulse Technologies wants you to control your home and hotel via iPhone… by the end of next year.
Pulse Technologies aims to conserve energy and improve security by enabling people to control their homes by adjusting the thermostat and monitoring their homes remotely to achieve their vision of “living buildings,” abiding by KNX and Z-Wave standards. Other fun capabilities include activating lights, alarms and home audio system via motion detectors and control motorized window treatments. It can even water your plants for you, activating your irrigation system. You know, because we all have one of those.
No word on cost according to Business 24/7, there are talks of a monthly fee and the plan is to do a trial run with a late 2010 commercial launch.
The promise is there and it’s exciting, it will be interesting to see how the trial goes. It claims the system is cost effective, but the lack of an advertised price is a little off-putting. The iPhone is becoming more and more popular as a device to consolidate and control your life. Cost/benefit analysis will surely become an increasingly crucial component to the future decisions of consumers. I’m not entirely sure how practical something like Pulse would serve a large demographic, but I’d imagine this would make an easy sell for high star class hotels. And knowing Dubai, fancy hotels, it does not lack.
