Remotescape iPhone App: Being Rich Must Be Great

Correction: Remotescape is a product of Remotescape Inc. and not a Kaleidescape System product. Remotescape was developed by Remotescape Inc. independently of Kaleidescape Systems which is why the App is not free.
It’s not often that I’m completely envious or jealous over not having a certain system or gadget, but I have to say with the release of Kaleidescape System’s custom iPhone remote app, I am quite jealous.
Kaleidescape released Remotescape — their own iPhone remote control app — for their high-end house entertainment servers, which run for upwards of US$50,000. Way-out-of-my-league-pricing aside, after watching the demo video I came away quite impressed. The ability to control your entire music and movie collection for your whole house right on the iPhone must be fun. I also was very happy to see they took advantage of the iPhone’s screen and its finger gestures as a controller for on screen media browsing. Personally I share the opinion that the finger gestures are great for control (I can’t stop using multi-touch gestures with Firefox). This on top of the multi-zone control makes this a dream system for most people.
Unfortunately I have to come back to reality — where I don’t have a Kaleidescape home entertainment system, or the cash to buy the pricey $69 app. Given the price of the system, I feel the app should be free, but I suppose if you have already ponied up for one of their systems, the $69 dollars might feel free. Still, I will admit I’d certainly love to have this in my home one day if I win the lotto or strike oil.
