Samsung’s LED TV finds tablet remote love

Samsung played the ultimate matchmaker when they created the LED TV couple, a 55-inch TV and 7-inch touch tablet remote combo introduced at IFA.

LED TV couple isn’t exactly the most exciting name for this home cinema combo, nor is it the most descriptive.  Aside from the beautiful looking LED-backlit LCD TV — I guess LED LCD TV is to many capitals — the real spark in this relationship comes from the remote, a fine-looking 7-inch touchscreen tablet PC with 802.11n Wi-Fi.  Having this powerful and extremely capable TV remote allows Samsung to offer a multitude of features, not the least of which is live TV/Blu-ray streaming video.

That’s right, this remote control can act as a second monitor for your TV, which of course means non-stop sports.  With a few touches and maybe a flick (that’s right, you can drag and toss your content to the TV — maybe this style remote could come to the iPhone?), you can stream whatever is on your TV straight to the 7-inch tablet.

In addition the tablet offers a visual program guide and web-based widgets, but of course nothings perfect.  While being Wi-Fi enabled, the Samsung tablet does not feature full web browsing, and of course it can only control this one TV.  Since home entertainment systems these days are usually made up of multiple pieces, some universal remote features would have been nice.

Unlike most trade show prototypes, this LED TV couple is the real deal.  Samsung released this combo in South Korea already, but we don’t know of any comment on availability in the west.  As for pricing, just the Samsung 55-inch LED TV is listed at $3399, so this dream couple is going to be an expensive date.
